WE NEED YOUR HELP!
The Easter season shares with us the most powerful message in the world –the Good News of Jesus Christ, His atoning sacrifice with His death on a cruel Roman Cross in a world of religion that hated Him. God ultimately ordained that sacrifice to give the human race an unprecedented opportunity to be reconciled to their Father God, and to be restored to Divine purpose and identity through the resurrection of Christ and the experience of being born anew into the family of God.
But, there are still many people in our world, whose struggles in life are an obvious sign that what they have encountered so far in their lives, whether they have heard and understood the Gospel or not, has not been enough to make a vital difference in their lives. They have fallen prey to rampant addictions, committed crimes, have had hard and difficult things happen to them in their childhood or adult years, are subject to mental illness, homelessness, human trafficking, the street sex trade and more.
The question to the Church is always –what are we doing about it?
New Destiny Church is uniquely centred in midst of this human chaos in the capital of Alberta, Edmonton. The streets here are full of wandering souls, most of them completely directionless and purposeless, who just keep slipping into the same old traps and listening to the same old lies.
Our efforts, though at times feeble in comparison to the need, are simply directed to touch their lives in a positive way with a meal along with clothing and personal items, whilst presenting Jesus to them in the best way possible and in every way possible. Our outreach events are always covered in prayer, and we are always looking for those people in the crowd who are open today to the greatest news of all –the Good News of Jesus.
Over this past month we have held some of the most successful outreach events of our almost 20 years here in downtown Edmonton. On Good Friday morning we had well over 150 people from the street attend our Good Friday 9:00 a.m. service, followed by a pancake breakfast at which we fed 300.
The Good Friday service featured great Gospel songs, a powerful video testimony from the Billy Graham association featuring Lacey Sturm, and message on the meaning of the Cross. A number of people raised their hands after praying the sinner’s prayer, to say they had received Christ. We followed this with communion and 50 people responded to participate in this important experience of remembering and responding to the grace offered to us in the Cross of Christ.
Just this last weekend, we held one of our summer BBQ events at the front of the Church. We had a strong team of 30 volunteers, many from a partnering Churches in the community. 300 hotdogs with snacks and refreshments were served, many articles of good used clothing and personal items were distributed. We had a great little worship team setting the atmosphere by worshipping throughout the 12 -2:00 p.m. event. We also had a stylist who gave free cuts to 25 people. We had a number of people who were prayed for in the crowd, and an evangelism team from a local Revival campaign brought us follow up cards from 6 people who had prayed to receive Christ.
Can you help us make a greater difference?
Our greatest need is funding to keep our doors open and ministry happening here in this needy area all through the year. We are thankful for every person who has been touched, but we know there is much more work to do, and we need to explore new ways to do it. The Cities of our country (and much of the world) are all facing these problems and are making very little progress in dealing with them. We know that we have the answer, but without significant financial backing we will never make a serious dent in the overwhelming challenges at hand.
But this is where you come in. Your support can enable us to continue to present the Good News here, as well as address or give support to the practical solutions as well.
A strong financial base enables us to give full attention to the things that matter most –people who Christ died for. It also helps us to take care of our facilities and equipment, and to enhance them as it is needed and we are able.
Can you get behind this ministry at this important time? –it is an absolute truth that when the Church thrives, financially and otherwise –the people are helped.
